  • Does Your GX Leak At 50 Deg. F?

With the cooler weather in So. Cal. I can definitely smell Mercaptan in the garage when I go out to start my GX in the morning. Mercaptan is the sulfur odor added to natural gas so you know its leaking from an appliance, car, pipe, or pump. Here's a url for more info on Mercaptan: http://www.columbiagasva.com/safety_info/mercaptan.htm (The scratch and sniff spot on their web sight doesn't seem to work on my monitor for some reason.)

I filled the car at night before driving home. In the cool weather the pump actually filled up to 100 % at a 3600 psi station. When I removed the nozzle the spout hissed for a while. The next day I pressed the dust cover on the spout and within 10-15 seconds it popped out a bit from the leak.

Does anyone else have a slight leakage from your filler spout at 45-50 deg. F?

    Thanks,

    Bill

It sounds like the check valve which keeps the gas in the tank is not seating properly. You might need a new 'spout'.

try refueling and see if it still leaks it could be a small bit of debris on the seat. another thing that can cause a leak immediately after fast filling is high moisture content in the cng.

I took my car into Robertson Palmdale Honda and they said that the o-ring that the check ball seats against wasn't staying in its groove. So, they changed it. They said the new one popped right into the groove and stayed there.

After filling it this morning it did hiss a bit, but it was down around 30 deg. F. I'll see if it's leaking when I get off of work.

As it turns out the filler valve wasn't sealing properly. Robertson Honda in Palmdale, CA had the car a few days and finally got all the parts they needed. (some were backordered from the motherland)

That solved the leaky filler valve. Then, the switch on the filler door got intermittant. This made the fuel gauge flash on and off; some computer thought the filler valve door was always open. The gauge metered correctly, but it just flashed. Robertson trouble-shot the problem, ordered a new switch and everything works just the way it should.

I have had my receptacle start leaking after a slow fill during extremely cold weather. I think ice or some other debris may have been preventing the check valve from seating. So far, driving down to the gas station and zapping it with high pressure from the quick fill pump caused the check valve to reseat properly.
