Can smeone please recommend a replacement horn for my GX? I have th need to honk at people frequently in Los Angeles, and the stock horn...well, it sux.
Try the "bad boy" air horn. It's very small and very loud. It fits in places others won't. They are sold at auto parts stores and many motorcycle accessory shops as they are small enough to fit a bike. They are sold under several different brand names other then bad boy. If you want to see a picture of one go to www.northerntool.com and look for item # 331036. They sell it for $39.99. Once you see what it looks like you can shop around locally---I have seen them as low as $29.95 .
air horns are great I agree I have one but your GX doesn't have air on board so you will have an additional expense. My recommendation drive around the city a little and cut people off, when they honk at you make note of the decibles, If it's loud and you like it go to that OEM and buy a horn or better go to a junk yard. If I am not mistaken most OEM electric horns will just have a positive and negative lead. If that just won't do you can always go with the "Blow your ear off 5000" or the BYEO 5000 we call it.
the air horns produce they're own air supply and only have a positive and negative lead that you could actually tie into the existing wiring harness so you could use the factory horn switch
but i am not too sure on the space available under the hood of a GX so it might not fit. i know one fit under the hood of my sisters aveo and it is a very small car under the hood
I had a real wimpy horn on my 85 Ranger, I went to Pep Boys and got a cheap air horn. They come with everything you need to install, compressor, relay, tubing. The horns get dirty and dont work after a few years, you can blow some WD-40 thru them and it seems to fix them. The other problem I had is that people will sometimes just slam on their brakes when you honk at them.
I installed a "Freeway Blaster" horn and was a little disappointed. It was the louder of two at a parts supplier that my business buys from. I think finding an older OE one is the way to go.

use a six volt horn off 40s and 50s car they will pull lots of power so wire a sixtys ford solnoid to your stock horn relay and pull the juice from the bat and not the wire harness as it will not work that way it wont burn out as long as you dont just stand on it I did this to my vw rabbit truck it is so loud that it will startel some one riding with you and fear the bad person who cut you off use at least 10 ga wire 8 is better you can scare little old ladys at the train tracks to have fun fearing all the bad drivers LOL cowboy
I replaced the original horn with a Wolo Bad Boy electronic air horn - it kicks ass.
Until...I hit the brakes and laid on the horn yesterday on the freeway (an overly aggressive MTS driver earned wrath). The fuse for the horn blew.
We proceeded undeterred to our favorite watering hole. After the trail dust was washed from our throats we got back in the car, started the engine, and realized that I couldn't shift out of park...nothing doin'...not moving.
So, I popped the cover to the manual shift release, shifted into neutral, started the car and went on my merry way.
This morning I looked into replacing the fuse and saw that the horn fuse also supports the brake lights. Those crafty Japanese don't want us driving around without brake lights, so they disable the shifter if the fuse blows. Ingenious, is a bit Big Brotherish.
I ordered new 30A fuses to replace the 15A that blew, assuming that the after-market horn is drawing too many amps.
Question: will the wiring for the horn (or brake lights) fry if I really lay on the horn for an extended time (say 10 seconds)?
