If you eliminate ignition as a possibility, it could be, gulp, the fuel pressure regulator $$. My 2000 had similar problem and the OBDII reported pressure was fine. Gave up and had the dealer work on it. They said the regulator was "flapping" and that one side was equalizing with the other side and flooding the engine.

Also switched to iridium spark plugs about 60k miles ago when I first started seeing random misfires. That took care of the problem for a while.

Just guessing... But, I would be suspicious of the coils. Friend of mine was having stumbling/misfires, one dealer changed all the injectors and gave up. Second dealer changed the coils - fixed the problem. A lot less miles then yours on an 01. In CA it was covered by the emissions warranty.

Park it until the problem is fixed. bad misfire can fry one or both catalists. And them's not cheap.

Is it worse on the first start of the day ?

It sounds like you might have a problem with the ignition coils. Possibly with the ground wire next to the thermostat. Check to see if that ground wire is loose or corroded.
