Anyone aware of any Honda dealers in California (Southern or Northern) that are selling brand new Civic GX's (either 08 or 09) for MSRP without a bunch of mandatory "options" required? If so, please advise. Thanks.

Re: Pricing on New 2008 or 09 Civic GX's
I think you hit the nail square on.
The nearest deal you are going to get is a little over 1K dealer markup , unless you are truly a fleet customer , or have a deposit and agreed price.
Overall demand for the gx may slow a little as gasoline drops in the winter, but Honda has alloted fewer gx cars for sale to retail customers in 2009.
That being said , a used gx is selling for about DOUBLE the price it would fetch a year ago. 1k markup on a new one ain't so bad.
In November '07 , a certain dealer in torrance would sell me a new '07 gx at invoice, and he had no interest in my used 01 gx with 96k , even at low bluebook. In April '08 I sold my '01 with 115k for $7500 , and bought a new 08 for sticker at a different dealer. Timing is everything with car sales.

Re: Pricing on New 2008 or 09 Civic GX's
Good afternoon lakewood 90712,
I wanted to correct something you said in your posting... American Honda is actually marketing twice the number of Civic GXs this model year (2009) vs last year (2008). Still might be enough to satisfy demand but the Company has double production.
Thank you,
Eric

Re: Pricing on New 2008 or 09 Civic GX's
Hi Eric.
Correct me if I am wrong. 2008 GX total production of approx 1500 cars , split between retail and fleet customers. Are you telling us Honda has commited to 3000 GX units in 2009?.
I would be very happy If I am wrong on this one.
The following are recent quotes from our resident GX Dealer , Curtis .
"Honda has committed to build 1500 2009 GX's for retail/fleet delivery. "
"Production (so far) is capped at 1500 units, which includes fleet deliveries. Fleet deliveries greatly increased for 2009, thereby reducing the number of vehicles available for retail delivery. Everyone is still trying to convince Honda to increase production numbers if at all possible. "
( Curtis , bail me out on this one or I might have to buy lunch for Eric , I'm in Torrance every day so I can't use the " Antelope Valley is too far " excuse like I do with you)

Re: Pricing on New 2008 or 09 Civic GX's
Hi John,
I can confirm that the information provided by Curtis is incorrect. Model year 2009 production is split between the East Liberty, Ohio factory and the new factory in Indiana. Production of all four door Civics is moving from East Liberty to Indiana and by December the shift will be complete.
Unfortunately there is a 6 month production gap between the two factorys but by the end of the 2009 model year Honda is scheduled to build 2,000 Civic GXs. The Indian plant is scheduled to begin building cars in June.
Fleet sales, while the backbone of the GX's sales history is NOT the majority of the cars sold today. For the past three model years retail sales have outpaced fleet and for 2009 the sales ratio of retail to fleet will "tilt" even more to retail.
I'm getting hungry!
Have a great weekend,
Eric

Re: Pricing on New 2008 or 09 Civic GX's
Hi John and Curtis,
Oh I forgot something... the 2,000 units for the MY 2009 is a 100% increase over the previous year! I challenge anyone to name a car company that has doubled production from one model year to the next for any of the models they offer...
Have a great weekend,
Eric

Eric, will those late 09 production cars be for MY 2009, or a mix of 2009/2010?

Curtis,
You know that one... June, July and August production would be in this model year (2009) as September and October release dates are traditionally the start of the next model year.
We're waiting to learn the build quantities by month once the Indiana plant begins to build the GX.
Have a good trip to the Coordinators meeting this week.

Get your GX A.S.A.P. while you can afford it.

Re: Pricing on New 2008 or 09 Civic GX's
The numbers here are very interesting. I wonder why American Honda doesn't make 4 or 5,000 GX's for MY 2009? While people are probably not going to be willing to pay $1-3k over MSRP forever, I would think more and more people would buy them as a great alternative fuel car, especially if the federal and state incentives stay in place to offset the higher cost compared to a gasoline powered Civic.
FYI, I just signed a contract with a Honda dealer for a brand new 2008 GX at MSRP plus $167 for mud guards and wheel locks. It sounds like this is a good deal based on what's currently happening in the marketplace.
This will make our third dedicated CNG vehicle -- 2001 Honda GX, 2003 Ford F150, and a 2008 Honda GX.
I'm still curious if anyone comes up with better pricing for a new GX.

Congratulations Scott. Sounds like you did as good as it gets. Enjoy the new Honda. After driving it, you're gonna be looking for another one 'cause it's gonna be a fight over who has to drive the old one.
Tip of the day: Don't let the wife drive it and shell be happy with the '01.
