  • My new GX questions

I have an odity that I would like explained and a beef that someone might be able to help with.

    1. When I go from reverse to drive a loud scratch or spark noise is obvious each time as I take off forward. Is this normal and if so what is it?

    2. My radio reception is sub-par what is the antenae deal and where is it. Do I have any hopes of enhancing reception?

#2 - do you have window tinting? That was the cause of poor AM radio reception in my '07 GX as the antenna is in the rear window.

        Re: My new GX questions

Other posts have suggested that the GX comes with a good radio but very poor speakers - and only two at that. Could your problem be poor speakers rather than poor reception?

          Re: My new GX questions

My radio sucks too. Poor poor reception. My old car(before I got the GX) had a broken antenna on it, yet I still could get the Los Angeles radio stations as I got close to LA on my daily commute.

I would have to say that the GX has about the same quality as the broken antenna..... Get close enough to LA and everything is OK. But try and pickup LA stations when you are further than 15 miles and forget it.

Sounds like the antenna lead may be dis-connected from the back of your radio and dangling into the transmission

Neither problem sounds normal, better have it checked

              Bakaroma,

              1. I notice a creak/crack noise seconds after I shift from park into reverse in my garage. I hear it best in the garage because the sound bounces off the wall of the garage.

              2. Antenna is in the rear window, check the connection to it. The stock antenna is directional. Reception will change depending on which way you are driving. Unplug the stock antenna and have a custom retractable antenna put on your fender; check out other Honda models to see what they've got. (An aftermarket "monopole" antenna on the fender is more omni-directional.)

Thanks for the radio info. I have noticed the directional difference on my my commute.

I am wondering about the noise. I have noticed if I come to a really good stop before I go from reverse to drive it does not make the noise. I have been doing this shifting on a slope so so the car is eager to go forward and given to gravity.

I have a noise like "clack" when changing directions (fwd-rev) and I think it is one of the brakes.

Its normal on most Honda and Acura vehicles to hear a clack sound whenever a vehicle goes forward then reverse and vise versa. Its the actual brake pads shifting, and it usually happens when you first step on the brake after going reverse, and sometimes after going forward after going reverse (confused?). Its a normal characteristic of the vehicle, and braking performance is not affected.

Oh and also the transmission might also make a sharp clack sound when coming out of reverse gear back to a forward gear, its normal...you'll also get used to that.

Where is the radio antenna in the 01-05 Civic GX's, also in rear window?
