  • 42.74 MPG today over 281 miles

I decided to go for a good mileage day, and though I had some city street driving around tha Bay Area, it wasn't too much, maybe 49 miles on the streets. I added 3.74 gge before heading back to my original fill-up location tonight (filled last night as well at same location). I didn't reset the trip at the intermediate fill, and added the to gge amounts together, and divided the 281 miles by the combined amount.

I could have done it without the in-between fill, but logistics demand that I fill in the Bay Area before going to Los Banos every day, as there is only one pump there, and if it was down, I couldn't get back

I don't trust one dispenser's readings, let alone two. I wouldn't trust your mileage calculations.

The final fill was where the first one was. Why don't you trust the readings? I know they don't always fill to the same level because of heat, but I could do the test over much longer distances and more fills to show what I already know - that one can get over 40mpg with proper driving techniques.

Right, they don't fill the same each time, but that would even out with enough fills. The part I don't trust is that I think most dispensers somewhat understate the GGEs dispensed a lot of the time.

I posted this in another thread, but will repost here. In order to get a more accurate mpg reading, you should avearage all of your fills and miles. To that end I have created a very basic spreadsheet (attached) to aid me in this calculation. Use if you wish!

Well, that would be just as good, since the $$$ is based on what they think they are pumping
