  • Civic GX's under $27k?

I've done a lot of research on cng vehicles & hybrids & I have come to the conclusion that I'm going to buy a civic gx. My only problem now is finding a dealership that will give me a reasonable price. I've shopped around at a few dealerships in southern california and they're going for anywhere from $27,500 to $30,000.

If you've had a good experience with the dealership you purchased your GX from can you please recommend them to me?

Also, when did you buy your gx & what did you pay for it? I'm realizing that the prices seem to keep going up and up the longer I wait to buy.

    thanks for your help

Personally I believe that it should be against Federal Law for a dealer to sell a new car for more than the MSRP. There is NO reason for it other than dealer greed. I also believe that a dealer should not be allowed by law to force you to buy any dealer installed options.

Nothing will change my mind on this point and I will never buy from a dealer that does.

I support your right not to buy from any dealer you choose for whatever reason, but don't start with Federal price controls on cars (again, remember the 70s?). MSRP means just that, RECOMMENDED selling price. Almost every car sells at a discount to MSRP, but occasionally (Prius, other hybrids, GX) the prices go higher, either with explicit markups or with 'packs.' Someone who's willing to pay extra gets their car sooner or choice of color or whatever the payoff is. That's the American
      Way.

I talked to Ron brown yesterday. He said he is now taking orders for 10 months out. He also said that Ken Garff Honda is still selling them for MSRP.

If gas stations raise their price too much the states go after them for price gouging so why is it any different when a dealer charges $3K or $4K over MSRP? It's still price gouging.

                      Re: Civic GX's under $27k?

Just got mine from Scott Robinson in Torrance. Jilliana led me thru the process, and kept me informed about when to expect delivery. Right up front they told me it would be $2750 over MSRP. I was very satisfied with the whole experience. She made me feel that I actually was going to get one, instead of the hap-hazard approach of the other dealers.

Have I ever bought a car even at MSRP....NO! But the factors(odds) involved in getting this car I think warranted the markup. It is just a matter of how bad you want the car.

Honda, of course, doesn't make many of them. Everyone in UTAH wants one because gas is below $1 a gallon. Then you have the recent "freak out" by my fellow Californians when gas went above $4.00 a gallon.

It puts a lot of pressure on just getting a GX. I had my name at several dealers. Each one had different ways of selling this vehicle. Most jotted my name down, put me on a mailing list, and told me that they had cars on the way. Well I did all of this in February and have barely had any followups from these dealers. When I call, again its the line "they are on the way", just don't know when they will be here. They also couldn't/wouldn't quote a price, and the only other one who did (up in San Fran) wanted $4000 over MSRP.

I also looked into used cars, but if you think the dealers are sticking to you, try finding a used GX with low miles that isn't at least $20K, or more.

Anyway, I added up some of the credits I would get ($4000 from the govt. and also an incentive from my company to go GREEN) and thought that it was still worth spending over MSRP.

Do I think that you can find someone who will sell at MSRP? Maybe a dealer you have had years of car buying relationships with, but I just don't think that it will ever be at MSRP, until Honda starts producing more of the GXs.

Maybe with T. Boone Pickens and his natural gas pitch, America will start making all kinds of CNG cars. Until then, Honda holds all the marbles.

A CNG car can hardly be considered a staple.

                          Hello All

I was quoted $1K over msrp at the below dealer:
Eric's very responsive and quoted the price over the phone.

And there is no state of emergency (the other usual requirement for the definition of 'price gouging')

I bought mine from Unicars Honda in Indio, CA. Contact Ruth Sinfuego, their internet sales manager. She is fantastic to work with. They will ship to you or pick you up at the airport if you want to fly down and drive it home. It only cost me $34 to drive from there to SLC.

I confirmed their current pricing. They will sell for MSRP +$500. Honda hasn't yet determined MSRP for '09. They are taking orders for '09's right now. $500 deposit gets you on their list. They will refund the deposit if they can't deliver by Jan 1, 2009. She isn't sure how many they will get in. It was a great experience working with them!
