  • Thinking of buying a GX

I am thinking of buying a GX.

I have not gone to the dealer yet.

not sure if I should get a Prius instead.

I would like to know how the GX performs compared to a petro civic.

I see reports that cost per mile is compareable to 2.50 pump gas.

    Is this true?
    GX owners

are you happy with your GX?

Have you had problems finding CNG? concered about range of 170 miles how many miles do get per fillup?

I am going to check out where to get CNG before I make up my mind.

    Thanks

Re: Thinking of buying a GX

I just bought a new 2008 GX from Vince at DCH Gardena Honda and I love it! These cars come loaded and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference from the gasoline counterparts but for the green stickers on the side.

With that said, I think I got the last one. I am not sure how you would go about getting a new GX unless you paid far over MSRP and probably used. I think the next deliveries are coming in September (09s), but from what I have heard they are all spoken for. Maybe someone else can chime in because I'd like to get another one if I could only find it. From my research even the 01s with 50k or so are being offered in the 15k-20k range - without any rebates.

As for fueling locations, just click on "fueling station map" on the column to the left and that should show you everything you need to know including locations and prices. Good luck.

Bought mine in late March. 2008 GX from Thousand Oaks Honda. They had 4 come in the night before and I just happened to call at the right time. I frequently travel all over SoCal and have no issues finding stations.

Got my HOV stickers 3 weeks ago so I can ride the carpool lanes by myself.

Also just got notice that my $3k rebate from the state is arriving within 60 days.

So far, 5300+ miles later, no complaints.

I hardly consider my GX "loaded", but it's okay. My Civic Hybrid has a lot more features, like Navigation & XM radio, and even REAR SPEAKERS

Love my gx. I have had it for a year and a couple of months. Carpool rules! You can find gas stations in the bay area pretty easily.

Re: Thinking of buying a GX

I 've had my gx since Dec 07, grant it that I never was a Honda guy, ( just not my style ), and even though I was second guessing my purchase while bringing her home from the dealer, it turned out to be a pretty darn good decision.
Presently I am happy with my GX. It is mainly my commuting car to take me to and from work.
Now as far as mileage between fill ups, I can testify that it gets really decent range, sure it could be better but it gets the job done. I drive about 200 miles a day round trip while still end up having a few bars left when I pull up to the pump.
Performance, is it comparable to a gasoline powered Civic yes and no. Basically it lacks take off, for example a freeway on ramp, or at a stop light, you will not beat a gasoline power car to the punch but we are not out racing either so does it matter that it is a bit slower, no not really! Once you are up highway speeds you can accelerate much more comparable to a gasoline powered Civic. It just seems like you have to be much more gentle on the accelarater for it to performe good, if you floor it, it just seems as if it gets overwhelmed, but if you ease into it you get better performance...
Well these have been my personal experiences with my 08 GX and they do not represent experiences of anyone but myself. So far I have a little over 25000 miles on it ( yes 25000 not a typo ) and I have got say that the GX has exceeded my expectations at every level.

<I would like to know how the GX performs compared to a petro civic.>

12.5:1 compression ratio, 100+ octane fuel; mine turns low 4's in the quarter. (Just kidding about the low 4's.) Seriously as far as acceleration goes its probably slower than a petrol Civic. 113 hp for the GX vs. about 130 hp for an LX.

<I see reports that cost per mile is compareable to 2.50 pump gas.>

I pay $1.999 for an equivalent gallon of cng.

Try this web site for cost comparisons: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/

              1. On the upper left click on "Compare Side-By-Side."
              2. Next page pick a year for comparison. Let's say 2007.
              3. Next page select a make. Honda, of course!
              4. Next page select Civic CNG.
              5. Under "Fuel Economics" below the numbers, in the mouse print the last sentence says, "Use Your Gas Prices & Annual Miles." Click on that link.
              6. At the bottom it says, "Other Fuels (dollars)" Click on that link.
              7. Next page enter your annual miles driven, city/highway mix, price per gallon of each fuel you want to compare. Put in a price for CNG at the bottom AND a price for regular gasoline. (Go to cngprices.com for CNG prices near you.)
              8. Click the Personalize box at the bottom of the page.
              9. Up pops the original page for the GX, but with all of your estimates entered and ready to crunch the numbers.
              10. Just to the right of the GX picture is the arrow to do a side-by-side comparison. Click on that and choose another car to compare.

The web site uses the fuel cost you've already entered to crunch the numbers for a cost to drive 25 miles. Under "MPG Estimates from Drivers Like You" you can click on the "View Individual Estimates" link and see my mileage. My '07 is the third one; holding up the average, I might add.

              <Is this true?
              GX owners >

It could very well be true depending on what you pay for CNG.

<are you happy with your GX?>

Extremely happy with it. I've got an '07.

<Have you had problems finding CNG? concered about range of 170 miles how many miles do get per fillup?>

No problem finding CNG in the So. Cal. area. 170 mile range? I get no less than 220 miles on a tank and many times I could go farther, but its more convenient to fill up in the afternoon or evening verses in the morning while on my way to work. Just running back and forth to my van pool (5% city/95% highway) I'm getting 37.9 mpg.

<I am going to check out where to get CNG before I make up my mind.>

Go to cngprices.com to find a station near you.

              Thanks
Cngchat.com and cngprices.com are the best places on the web to go for CNG info.

Re: Thinking of buying a GX

The GX doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but you can add most of them (like rear speakers, GPS).

                The big decisions are:

Will you have a pump at home? If so, then a CNG car definitely makes sense. CNG at home is now about $1.50/gal. in So. Cal. You get about the same mileage as a gasoline Civic.

Will the range be limiting? I get 200 miles on my 01 and 02 Civics before the light goes on (then at least another 30). But remember, I fuel at home and get 3600psi every time. Commercial stations often leave you with less. If 200+ miles is not enough range for you, consider a bifuel car or own a gasoline car along with your CNG car.

Would you save a lot of time with carpool access? That can make a big difference in your life.

As far as pumps go, Phill is very slow and is mostly for convenience. Another model is needed if you want faster pumping speed, better reliability and lower total cost per gallon.

Re: Thinking of buying a GX

looks like I'll have to wait to get one.

My I'll get lucky and find CNG car from one of the GSA auctions.

right now they have a cavalier on auction current bid $11,600 cng/gasoline
I think waiting for a new car would be better then buying something like this.
unless I get lucky and find one cheaper I am sure the GX is much better then the Cavalier
I just want a good CNG economy car

they had a 2002 GX for sale last week but it was not a online action don't know what it went for.
saw it the day of the action might have gone to LA for it maybe better price if its not online?

I live in San Jose Ca
looking on the internet it looks like they are readly avalible in the Los Angeles area but I have to wait a few months to get one here
Is it posable to drive from LA to San Jose? Is CNG avalble along I5

                        Thanks for the info
