  • Smog check necessary for 1999 CNG Civic?

I just received my registration renewal and it says that I need to get a smog check for my 1999 Honda Civic GX

I took it to get a smog check and the representative said that I do not to get a CNG Vehicle smogged. Is this true and, if so, what do I need to do to register this information with the DMV?

In Calif you must smog a cng car just like any other. I imagine that it would be the same in most, if not all, states. The problem is that the vehicle could be high in one particular emission that they check for (I think it's NOx) if the car were not running correctly ot the catalytic converter were damaged. The other problem is that so few people are familiar with the cars that misinformation abounds. I suspect that this is the first NGV this smog tech has run into. You should sail through smog with no problems, but in spite of his advise, you are still going to have to smog the car... Sorry
