As you said, Sam, this is a worse case scenario. Short hops don't allow the engine to warm fully, although 10 miles should do it. Probably a lot of stop and go

Sam, 20MPG seems pretty low, it most be as you say worst case, I wouldn't worry about your car, if you got over 40MPG on a trip everything must be in good
