How lond does it really take to get delivery on new Civic GX. The local Honda sales man here in West Hills CA told me at least 6 months or longer. Can that possibly be true?
San Tan Honda in Chandler, Az says they are out until the 09's come in in October. Something about end of run and they don't want to order more 2008's when they are ordering the 09's.
Ken Garf, Salt Lake, has a waiting list of over 200 with a non-refundable deposit of $500 per entry. They are talking about the beginning of 2009 to be the target date for those on the high-end of this list. By the way, Ken Garf has over $100,000 sitting there in some bank account drawing interest on my $500 deposit.
I bought mine off the lot at Dublin Honda. They had 4 come in 3 weeks ago today. I had called about 2 days before that, and they said they'd call when they came in, and they did. It took me about 5 hours to get there, as I hadn't decided for sure to buy, and had no deposit or agreement. 3 of the 4 were left when I got there, and I bought 1. I think they said some more were coming in August
I put a $500 down on a 2009 Honda GX from Ken Garff of Salt Lake City. Ron Brown stated it would be in Sept/Oct time frame. I have no idea on the different features or MSRP from the 2008 and the 2009. When I ordered mine I was 26 on the list.
What none of the GX dealers are aware of is that 2009 production is under threat. Honda is moving the entire Civic production away from Ohio to one of their southern factories.
In addition, they have committed to building 300,000 regular Civic's for the 09 run. At one point, the factory told Honda that they were doubtful of how many GX's they would be able to produce, stating that it wouldn't be near the 08 numbers.
Honda actually increased production to about 1500 units for 08, in response to the growing demand, but expected to only be able to do about half that for 09.
Fortunately, and from the top of the Honda hierarchy, the factory got a call and was told that they had better figure out a way to produce the cars... period. We still don't know what the production will be, but they may not make as many as we need.
Honda could sell 5,000-10,000 units this year, if they could produce them, which they can't.
I am ordering about 200 cars for 09. I doubt I'll get as many as I ask for, or as fast as I'll need them. I am not pre selling, taking deposits, or holding cars for anyone since I don't want to commit people to car's I may not get. I will simply keep my inventory updated in "Curt's Corner" and it will be first come, first serve.
Unless delayed, 09's should start arriving by Sept. In past year's we've seen production delays of 2-3 months, for whatever reason. Hopefully those in power have recognized what's going on here and will respond appropriately to meet demand.
All I know is I wouldn't want to have my 'non-refundable' money tied up and be number 200 on someones list.

I was unable to attend the Alt fuels roll out in Vegas. I was told that Honda had announced they will add an aditional 300 GX's to next years GX run. I herd this several times. This would be good question for Anabela.
I can only hope that ends up being the case, however, as my earlier post mentioned, it might not happen. I spent a fair amount of time with both Annabel and Eric in Vegas, and the 09's were a big question mark for the reason's I listed. Personally, I hope they pull a huge fluffy rabbit out of their hat and do better than 1800 units. That won't even scratch the surface of current demand.
I'd be surprised if you could get a new one even at MSRP... The market now seems to be even hotter than 8 years ago when I bought our first NGV (2000 GX). At that time there was a waiting list and we couldn't even get mats thrown in the deal. EVERYTHING including all dealer added options was at full MSRP.
I agree. At this point, I can see extras being added. If dealers have waiting lists of 100's of people, why charge MSRP when they can get a few extra $$ for floor mats...
