  • Civic GX Fuel Filters and Intervals.

After untold requests, and driving my service dept mad, I was handed a standardized list of prices for these items and services. I'm not sure where they originated, and some differ from previous info that I've posted.

If you have questions about anything listed here contact Alan Miller at the number under my picture. These price's apply at My dealership only. They may be useful in getting a price-break at your local servicing dealer. Keep in mind that all franchise Honda dealers set their own labor rates and pricing, so this is not universal, as many of you have found out.

      Curtis -

Thanks for posting these. Now I know just how ripped off I got by Honda World in Westminster. They charged me roughly $225 for replacing only the low pressure filter. I hadn't ever planned on going back there again (literally, without looking at the car, just walking in the door, they already were trying to get me to buy $950 worth of service! And that did NOT include looking into the check engine light which had lit up), but being charged a lot more than what you charge definitely makes me feel robbed.

I still feel like a $140 required repair every 10k miles is a bit steep, but I guess there are prices to pay for getting my carpool sticker.

      Cheers,
      Todd

Can the Low Pressure filter be changed easily by the owner? "High Pressure" by the sound of it may be dangerous, certainly requiring a Service Manual. Come to think of it, a service manual sounds like a good idea for any number of reasons. Got any good deals on those, Curtis?

Curtis, are those OPCODE Honda's standard codes or your dealerships?

Curtis - Just FYI the site is helminc.com, not helmsinc.com. The latter goes to one of those parked search engine pages that doesn't even link directly to helminc.com.

Re: Civic GX Fuel Filters and Intervals.

I would suspect that the OPCODES are in house designations. However, as I said in the post, further details should be directed to Alan in my svs dept. I don't work with that dept and have no specifics.

And Todd, thanks for the correction of that web site address.

What happens if the filter is not changed at the suggested intervals on a 08 Civic?
                  Thanks!

The "High pressure" filter is not all that high, it's after the in tank regulator. The drain & replace o ring on the high pressure is suposed to be done at the same interval as oil changes. The "low pressure' filter harder to access , it's next to the intake manifold. After 30k miles, the "High press" filter looked good enough to re use on my '01.

DO get the gx service supplement before working on the gas system.

Until the car had 110 k miles, I spent about a thousand on fuel filters . I'll always do them myself from now on.

I'll still leave the oil changes to the dealer. For $30 , Let them deal with the mess .

The same thing that happens when you speed in an 08 Civic... Nothing unless you get caught. If you had a fuel system problem under the warranty period, failed injector for example, they would possibly say you own the problem due to failing to comply with the maintenance schedule.

Is it a calculated risk? Yes, depending on where in the country you are, gas quality/content, age of the compressor at your public station (does it blow oil past the rings), and so on. Best to comply while under warranty just to cya. I change mine every 10-15k after the warranty period. If you use a VRA, like the Phill, they are oil less and would not cause an oil/moisture problem, like you might have at a public station.

If it's a money thing, just do it as soon as you can afford to.

Re: Civic GX Fuel Filters and Intervals.

In the past I have requested from my dealer to see the fuel filters condition after they change them. I was told that because of the fuel, they had to be disposed of properly and the filter would have to be cut open to inspect and that would be too dangerous. Ooh, Scary.

Well, I had just received yesterday a GX Service Manual. I'm sure as most of you already know (and I am just learning), to change the filter you are already removing the filter element from the filter housing, and appears to be easily inspected. It kinda steams me that the dealer comes across very reputable and has apparently lied to me. What else have they lied about. Or is the service manager just talking out of their rear end and doesn't really know. Maybe I will talk to the Tech.

Re: Civic GX Fuel Filters and Intervals.

I got my filters back. The A filter is paper off white in color and will show any oil that gets into the system when refueling. The B filter I think catches both water and oil.

I think that you have to check the B filter really soon after taking it out since it will start pulling water from the air. New filters are sealed to keep the water out.

My A filter look almost as clean as the new one I supplied them. There were no oil spots but it was not as white.

The B filter had some kind of liquid in the bottom, I don't know if that normal or not. The filter was sitting in the trunk for about a week and a half after it was changed, and while the body shop was fixing the damage to the front fender and bumper, so I don't know if that would effect what I'm seeing.

Once I get done checking them out I'll drop them off at the dealer so they can dispose of them properly

I wish we could get a Civic GX tech on the site to answer questions. Curtis, could you ask some of your GX trained techs if they would be interested in answering questions on the forum?

                            Todd,
If you were mis charged, you NEED to bring it to their attention and discuss it.
What did they charge for the Low Pressure filter?
                            What labor did they charge?
I'm sure there is a standard labor (hours) to replace this filter and this information
                            needs to be brought up.
                            Thaks!
                            Jeff

My nearest CNG certified dealer is 100 miles away and I have almost always maintained ALL my vehicles myself (I am a licensed Airframe and PowerPlant mechanic and am use to procedure lists ;-) ). Is their a decent diagram showing the high pressure filter and/or replacement steps for a 99 Civic GX? (I am also currently looking into getting a service manual for this vehicle....., but havn't got it yet). I have noted that Curtis recommends a gx service supplement and that sjseng got one, can either of you tell me the best source for one for the 99 GX?
