  • any gx savvy mechanics?

i bought a 2000 gx, its on its way from arrid zona, what kind of stuff goes wrong with them, i like to keep a few of the obvious things on hand. for example i probably will pick up an o2 sensor from ebay and have it sit until i need it, thereby alleviating the need to run out and spend top dollar on stuff. so.................what things are the more common faults, diaphragms??? sensors? or what.

    thanks in advance

My brother-in-law's 1998 Civic recently had two injectors go belly-up. I've read a few posts on here where injectors have gone bad( http://cngchat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=917 ). They are quite pricy, but very easy to replace on your own. My 2001 Civic recently had the distributor die, I guess that happens on civics occasionally, but isn't too common as far as I know.

    Good luck,

I have a 2001 and a 2002 GX. They have both had the transmissions replaced under warranty (100k miles now) so if yours is under 100k (or not much over) and has any transmission issues, get it in to a dealer immediately. About $3k for a rebuilt installed at the dealer.

I have also had problems with the fuel system -- two fuel senders and a high pressure regulator. In CA there is a state mandated 150k mile warranty on these parts. About $2k for each repair otherwise.

Never had to replace anything else because it failed. I replaced the fuel filters on the 2001 at 100k just because and they came out pretty clean. If your fuel supply is reliably clean and dry, the filters are just a backup. Of course, timing belt and water pump at 100k and occasional oil changes (doesn't as dirty as gas engines even at 2x the recommended change interval).

I bought the shop manual and GX supplement from Helm which answer many questions.

Isn't that just the 2001 and up, because it came with the CVT?

As far as problems, I had to replace a fuel injector at 370 dollars. That's all the problems that i have had, but i have only put on 10k miles.

I found a post about Honda Bob in Southern Cal. Anyone know much about him? He says nothing on his web site about working on GXs but I hear that he does.

He works on all Hondas, is very good and very reasonable.

We've had to replace injectors on several Civics. They're around $140 at Autozone, you just have to be very specific that they are CNG and don't be scared to send them back if they get you the wrong ones the first couple of times. They're more expensive than gasoline injectors but much cheaper than the $400 or so injectors from the dealer.

                  CNG Utah,
Gimme that part number for that autozone injector and i'm all over it next time my injector goes out. I'm sure im not the only one who wants that information. Admin should make a part list with alternative stores and parts instead of buying the Honda parts.

Maybe a list could be started by everyone contributing information.

                    Sounds like a great idea

Over 100K on a 2000 GX. The only non scheduled maintenance was the main electronics module that went belly up just within a month after the end of the extended warranty period (7 years and 3 weeks, it was just under 100K at the time)
2008 GX (extended range, trunkless version)
Polished Metal Metallic 2012 Civic Natural Gas
                      Fuelmaker FMQ-2-36 (since 2001)
                      Previously owned: 2000 GX (11 years), 1995 Bi-fuel Sonoma, 2000 Bifuel Tahoe, 2000 Bi-fuel F150

I just want to make sure of Honda Bob's qualifications. Does have GX training and certification. Is he certified to do the "every 36K tank inspection"? He is certified to do warrantee work?

If anyone here has used him for GX's maybe they could get him to join the forum and tell us about him self. If he's qualified I'm sure he could pick up a lot of business from SoCal members of the forum.
