Re: best range from a 2000 gx?

On a 4,100 psi fastfill in Indianapolis, IN (awesome new pump at Kyler HVAC) that I topped off even more the next morning (think I got slight overfill of 8 gge tank in Honda Civic GX 2001) and I made it all the way to St Louis . . . WITHOUT the low fuel light even coming one which is 253 miles. I'm guessing I could have made around 300 miles on that tank.

We have a 2000 gx. Best mileage was 182 when the light came on. Light means 50 more they say.

Should be 6 GGE, mine is 6 and it's a 99. Unless there was an option for 8 GGE? Don't know.

The manual for mine (1999 GX) says it's 8.0 at 3,600 and 7.2 at 3,000.
Nobody ever seems to get much more than 6 in any GX, I'd really like to know if the tanks are a different size in different years.

I believe the early gx's had the smaller tank. My 2000 has the 8gal tank.

Yes the manual does advertise 8 GGE for our 2000 (late in the model year actually delivered in September 2000); maybe our low pressure cutoff does so with a couple GGE still in the tank, but I've never had a fast fill that delivered more than 5.5 GGE.
Range clearly depends upon the ambient temperature and in AZ we can get ~210 miles in the winter and ~180 in the hottest part of the summer. Mileage reflects slow filling over night at home and driving ~20 miles with the low fuel light on.

The compressor pressure has a huge impact on range. If you're in Utah, using 3000psi infrastructure, you will definitely see a difference in range. God forbid you pull up after the bus, streetsweeper, etc fills up and sucks down the pressure.

The first time you get a good 3600psi fill-up, you should be around 200 miles, depending on the type and style of driving.

Congrats on the new car and enjoy.

I think the engine and tank on a 2000 is the same as my 1999. Wednesday I filled with the 3,000psi side to about 3,200psi and made it 145 miles without the light coming on, although it was about to.
If you are planning to go a long distance and need a better range, go eat a meal after filling and then go back and top off, I can usually get an extra 30+ (1-1.5gge) miles.

In my 2001 civic I filled up at the same station in Burbank 3 days in a row with almost the same mileage every day filling on the same pump. Burbank pumps do give a better fill at almost 4000 psi.

                            2001 civic 3600 psi tank 220.1 miles

90% freeway driving using a 100mi freeway commute in 1 hr and 15 minutes averaging 75mph. 220.1 miles on the tank at 5.96 GGE when filled. A 36.9 mpg adverage. The fuel light came on at 219 miles.

With 2 gallons left @ 36 mpg on the freeway; Hypothetically I may have gone another 72 miles or so for a total 292 miles, but I think I'll pass on using my AAA card.

It's very important to know that the fill pressure does make a difference in total miles, plus not all gas has the same octane equivalent rating which can vary MPG and range. I have had a few bad fills in the past with bad gas mileage and range. If you have a 2001 and up you should have a 8 gge tank.

At 3600 psi if you drive a lot in the city expect your range to be 140 miles and the fuel light illuminates. If you drive a lot on the highway expect 190 miles to the fuel light. When the fuel light comes on you have 2 gallons or less and you should calculate range left at city mileage and you should have about a 40 mile range, but don't push your luck on that fuel light. That next station just may have gone non operational with your car on empty.
