  • '07 GX $10,000+ repair bill???

First and formost. My wife LOVES her 07 GX. I do too but need a truck. (Are you listening Honda?) About three weeks ago after filling it the fill valve starts hissing (leaking). It's 6 monhts old. Under warrenty. Honda replaces the tank and tells us that the repair bill would have been "way over $10,000" had it not been under warrenty.

    YIKES!

    Anybody else?

Can you say "EXTENDED THE WARRENTY" ?

Oh. Does Honda offer an extended warrenty?

Yes and you should still be able to get it. I'm not sure what it costs now but when I got my 2004 is was around $1,000.

    Curtis will have the details.

If it was the fill valve I don't understand why the replaced the tank? Strange.

You can buy them from anyone. I like to check prices here:

Maybe Curtis can offer special deals to the group. I know in a couple of months I am going to need an extended warranty for my Honda Accord.

I would love to be able to offer warranty deals to the group. It's not my area of expertise, as finance usually handles them, but I'll check on it for you guys.

I've heard of the fill valve leaking after a fill on several occassions. I would immediately reconnect and disconnect a couple of times, maybe try and add some more fuel, just in case there is something holding the check-ball open. A poorly maintained compressor could actually cause ice crystals that can do exactly that.

I would certainly take it back to the dealer as soon as possible and get it checked. I have no idea why they would change out the tank. They must have found some reason. Honda doesn't approve that kind of a warranty job without good reason.

Reread the list of items covered under the special emissions warranties on PZEV cars (based on residence). In Ca, many items are covered for 15yr/150k mi. A wrap around warranty for as long as you can manage is not a bad idea on any new car (personal opinion) as they're pretty much little more than expensive computers with wheels on them (all cars).

Honda has warranties that can cover you for an extended time (or mileage), depending on your driving habits, for more than 5y/100k. Just think of it like health insurance for your car. Look at all the other insurance we carry and pray we never need. There just aren't any cheap repairs on cars anymore.

You can buy extended term insurance from Honda during the first 3/36 I believe, although it's usually cheaper at time of purchase.

Check any extended warranty carefully. Most of them other than Honda will exclude specialty items like alternative fuel systems.

Also, check the California special PZEV extended warranty first. Like Curtis said, 15 years 150k on most of the alt fuel components -- I bet the tank and valve are included but I don't have it handy.

You may want to check out the following thread.

It is about a Cavalier that was venting out the fill nozzle. The problem is with the check valve and not the tank.

The incremental CNG cost for your GX is $6,730 so even if they tore out and replaced the entire fueling system I have a really hard time understanding $10k...

I saw an article many years ago that showed the original selling price of an 89 Ford Taurus and what it would cost to but the car one piece at a time and build it yourself. The cost was about 3-4 times higher than what the car sold for new.

I suspect that we are looking at something similar here, plus a labor rate near $90 to $100 an hour added into that.
