Assuming your talking about an OEM GM truck: There is a bolt around the filler nozzle. Unscrew that and the cover will come right off. The hose stays attached to the tank.

I got all the bolts out and I can almost take the cover off completely. However, the rubber hose is the only thing stopping me. Can I un-screw that? Or will fuel from the tank come hissing out?
