Cruise seemed to be on most of the state fleet Cavaliers from '99 and '00 (3 sp automatic). I've seen very few '01 and '02 with cruise (4 sp auto). Seems that most '03 and '04 Cavaliers have cruise.

I've had a Ford Van and a Contour with aftermarket cruise and they didn't work nearly as well as the factory cruise systems.

I'm looking to do the same thing, found this link:

What direction did you end up going?

I have done nothing yet as far as the cruise control. I talked with a mechanic buddy of mine who looked up all the parts and was told that an aftermarket cruise was the way to go because of the CNG. That is as far as I have taken it. I just got the windows tinted and now I am looking for a kit to make the windows electric instead of the stupid manual ones. If you figure out anything with the cruise or know anything about the windows please let me know. I am wanting to make this a little nicer as I plan on keeping it for awhile and possibly getting a CNG F150 since it looks like CNG is going to take off even more in my area.

We install Rostra cruise controls, a cruise for the Cavalier would be $398.00 installed.

Hi, I installed this one myself http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00029WQTW It is the Audiovox CCS100 Universal Vacuum Cruise Control. It took a little time and patience but it works great. I actually installed one on my 98 cav and on my friends 98 cav and installed on on a Dodge Caravan I had. The hardest part is hooking up the throttle linkage. I do not like the switch that comes with it so I went to the junk yard and got a factory switch with the wiring connector and the throttle linkage connector and used that instead. It is probably not as nice as the 300+ dollar one but I got this car to save money.

Yeah I'm looking to upgrade the windows and locks too--the wife can't stand the manual ones with the kids in the car. I've found a wrecked cav same color with all that on it so I might just swap the doors, assuming the wiring is the same.

I'll let you know if I try the cruise. I've heard of ng cavs with factory cruise so I can't see why the ng would affect it.

I pulled the cruise and wiring out of a Cavalier at the Salvage yard. It took some time, but works great. The wiring was the only challenge. It required some experimenting with the main wiring block on the driver's side of the engine compartment. I used the link mentioned above ( hotrodder.com ) as a guide.

                    Hi all,

I've got an 04 manual windows, locks and no cruise! blah!!!

What parts do i need to get from a junk yard for cruise? The switch obviously but is there just a wiring harness to worry about or is there some under hood/dash control unit and all that jazz as well? I have a steering column from a 95 Pontiac grandam that looks to use the same control switch. I may have some if not all of the harness, not sure its been awhile.

This Rostra kit that was mentioned... it comes with EVERYTHING needed? i just see a new turn/cruise switch in the description.

I can live with manual windows and locks... for now. Those of you swapping over to that, what all parts are you pulling at the yards in order to get functionality. Ive got access to an 02 cav with power windows, locks and cruise to use as a reference point as needed.

                    Thanks everyone!

Re: Can I install cruise control on my cavalier???

My local alarm installer was able to electrify the locks with a key fob transmitter. If you don't want the alarm feature they can program it to be off. With Cruise Control it's also probably easier to install an aftermarket kit -- those have been around for decades, a medium difficulty DIY job. There are also power window conversion kits but I don't have any experience with them.

Re: Can I install cruise control on my cavalier???

Just added the Rostra kit to my 2004. It comes with everything you need; not just the turn signal. You will need to pull the steering wheel to install the turn signal, tap into the computer wiring harness, the brake switch and power. You will also need a close quarters drill to mount the control unit to the firewall. It took me about 6 hours, and I'm fairly mechanically inclined. If you have doubts, I would take it to lancer auto for the price they noted above. Heck, I'd just bite the bullet and have them do it if I was able to start again. It's not worth the trouble from a time vs. savings standpoint IMHO.

A good stereo shop should be able to do a nice job on adding cruise control, as well as auto door locks and even power windows.

For those interested, the above mentioned universal cruise control unit is no longer on Amazon, you can buy http://www.amazon.com/Audiovox-Ultra...7049661&sr=1-1

This appears to be a similar unit, but costs around $200. For me, it is not worth it even with a 60 mile round trip commute every day on I-15.

Just finished installing cruise into my 04 Cavi... got a controller (along with a whole bunch of other stuff) for free from a friend who was scrapping out his 2000 Pontaic Grand Am...

                              Found this wiring diagram...
                              2001-Grand_Prix_cruise.jpg
... and used it for the connections to the controller... combined that with the PCM pinout info found here: http://www.justanswer.com/chevy/1eey...r-located.html

... got an OEM cruise/turn signal lever for $20 off a guy on craigslist... fished some wires, made some connections, read the info here:
                              http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversion...driven-tb.html

... to determine that the Cruise Inhibit signal MUST be connected to the PCM - and IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!

Next I will be installing the power windows and locks!
