  • Newbie, stalling question

I bought a 2004 Cav, on the way home (light shows it's running on gas) it stalls on the freeway. I restarts after 15 seconds or so but still unerving--and doesn't help my efforts to convince my wife to drive it. Any ideas?

Also, I want to fill it with NG but I'm not seeing the o ring in the connector as described in the manual, is that easy to find?

    TIA

    Re: Newbie, stalling question

Could be a number of things causing it to stall. You might want to check the fuel pressure. Could be anything from a plugged fuel filter to a bad fuel pump. It could also be an electrical problem that is related to a component that is heating up, failing, and then working again after cooling off. One thing nice about having two fuel systems is the ability to determine if the gasoline fuel system is the problem by running on CNG and seeing if the problem dissapears . As to the "O" ring in the nozzle---it is a black rubber ring located about 1/8" inside the filler nozzle. Even if it is there, you might want to change it out for a new one. The last time I checked, they were still available from the dealer. The part number of the "O" ring and other parts you might want for spares (such as the high pressure regulator filter kit and intermediate pressure filter element) are located in the owners manual supplement for the CNG conversion. Three spare "O" rings were included in the literature package when the car was new---I always keep a spare in the glove box. A small pick will remove the old "O" ring and a little vasoline on the new ring will allow it to slide right in place. Welcome to the CNG community and I hope you enjoy your new car---the '03's and '04's were the best of the breed from Chevrolet.

The O-ring size is -110. You will want to use Buna-N.

Do you have trouble running on CNG and Gas or are both giving you issues?

            Lancer,

I haven't put NG in it yet so its just running on petrol. the NG shows empty. Also, it doesn't sputter just shuts off. I plan to change the oil/filters this weekend.

You need to isolate the problem to see if it is an ignition or fuel problem. We would suggest doing a fuel pressure and volume test to determine which problem you’re dealing with.

Looking at the McMaster-carr site, I have several offered by temp range and hardness, does it matter? Thanks again.

I ordered part number 9452K22. They were $2.08 for a pack of 100, but shipping was $5.00.
