  • Cavalier longevity

What's the conventional wisdom on how many miles one can expect on a 99-04 Cavalier that is serviced regularly and usually run on CNG? Thanks.

I have a 98 with around 92,000 miles - I've had problems since a company that changed my oil neglected to put radiator cap on and caused head gasket to go out - when I picked it up after gasket was fixed car would not run on CNG - ran on regular gas for about 8 months - had to change regulator valve and that wasn't cheap - ABS brake light has been on ever since I believe it needs a pump, not sure - car runs pretty good other then that - however I'm not sure why I only get about 16/mpg - I've heard others get a lot more - any ideas? what seems to be the norm for cavilier?

2000 and older tend to have more problems than the 2001 and newer. I would say 250k mark may be your max. The newer cavs were built much better especially the 03 and newer. 350k-550k there I say. GX will always be your best bet if you can make it work 1m no problem. I've only sold 200 CNG Cavaliers over the past few years. But it's like anything, take care of it and it will take care of you back

I don't know about the GX. 01-05 have the CVT. Has that been solved, or will the rebuilts start going out after 70k (at $3k a shot)? Plus there are huge repair costs for coils, injectors, fuel gauges and HPRs. It seems like a post-warranty money pit to me.

I have a 2001 Cavalier (thanks Murphy, I still love it!) and I just figured out that I get about 31 - 32 MPG on CNG. I was quite pleased with that.

Steve, can you give any tips to help me increase my mileage?
I have a 2002 CNG Cav with only 31 k miles and I only get about 23.5 on CNG and 24.9 on regular pump gas.
                  Thanks
