  • 2001 CNG Cavalier

Alright I have a 2001 CNG Cavalier, and I have some questions about fueling.

At the fueling station there are two pumps, a 3000psi and a 3600psi pump, I usually fill up at the 3000psi pump. When I fill up it takes only 4.6 gallons on CNG to "fill" the tank.

Is this normal to only fit 4 gallons in the tank?

Also, how do I find out if my cars relay switch has been modified, due to the recall?

From empty you should get about 6 gallons at the 3600psi pump. My experience has been that pumps usually display somewhat less that I expected anyway.

I was filling today and I received an error at 4 gallons, it said, "ERROR: BLOCKAGE"

also 4 gallons only puts the gauge at 4/5th's full.

If you are talking about the thermal event (oh crap, its on fire) recall, it's pretty easy to check for it. There is a small cube shaped relay added to the starter circuit wiring in the engine compartment. It is usually tie-wrapped to the wiring harness near the starter motor. Wires from the starter solenoid go to the relay and then back to the original starter harness. The purpose of the recall is to add the relay to take the starter solenoid load off the ignition switch inside the car (which can overheat and ruin your day) If you are still not sure, give the VIN# to any dealer and they can tell you. It's also a good thing to do to check if there are any other open recalls and at the same time you can ask for the service history.

the most I ever got into my 2001 was 5.65, and that was at a 3600 pump

Wow, on my BEST day my cavalier only can squeeze 4.3 in it's tank when my car has switched over to gasoline mode (indicating my CNG is empty)....
