Re: Where's the best place to get HPR for a Cavalier?

    ThunderStik,

I have moved this thread to the GM/Chevy forum. The HPR part number for the Cavalier is HPR 3600. It is made by Impco. Impco has several distributors available through their website. I have found the HPR 3600 for about $350 through one of them, but some people on here are reporting the HPR 3600 for about $250 through a propane parts distributor.

The HPR on ebay is made by GFI (different than Impco). I would be a cautious about buying that HPR due to the fact that the electronic connection might not match up and the voltage might be different. Also the output pressure might be different as well. Even the pressure relief device might be different.

I got mine from Intermountain Truck Rebuilders in Ogden...It took 3 days for them to order it and receive it. I paid $275...not as cheap as the $210 that the other guy is reporting. I will post the how to for installing the HPR hopefully by tomorrow if I get the time tonight to work on it.

I Bought A Impco Hpr 3600 Last Week From An Impco Distriutor. The Top Fitting That Houses The Filter Is Different. It Works Fine. You Have To Use Your Old Fittings. Mine Took About 30 Minute To Convert. My Car Is Up And Running With No Problems.

I am holding a HPR3600 and a HPR3600 GM in my hand they are not close. I will hunt up a 3/8 female npt x dash 4 or 6 female oring boss to connect my new one to the 3600psi tubing. also, the neck is shorter, so I'll make a new mounting bracket. any words of wisdom for me. When I put the new valve up where it goes the nut won't start because of the hoses. Help , please. Hooper

Hooper, this is why Dovh49 is doing his write up on what you need to, however the long and short of it is:
            1) Remove the main 3600 PSI input fitting from your HPR3600GMC and put it in the HPR 3600 (you will not use the black ring on the new HPR it passed the coolant around the input but on the new one this is self contained)
            2) Remove the coolant line fittings from the old and put them on the new one
            3) remove the CNG line fitting from the old and put them on the new
Last you have to get all the line under your car to meet the HPR in there new locations. dovh49 will have you give you insight on how you make them get to the new locations.

Re: Where's the best place to get HPR for a Cavalier?

With mine the check engine light came on (I assume it has a sensor in the front that tells it that it got too much pressure???). I also heard the venting in the back. The first time it was coming out of my fill receptacle, if it is that then you will notice the gas coming out of it. The second time my car was venting it came from HPR PRD under the car, I didn't really check closely but it only happened when I would drive on CNG and when I would break, it got worse the more I drove it (I didn't drive it very much once it was venting), it wouldn't drive on CNG anymore after the HPR PRD was venting. Usually if it's the fill receptacle you might notice it happening when you fill up too.

You should go to the back of your car when it is venting and see wear it is coming from. It is most likely one of those two problems. If it is the fill receptacle make sure to take pics when you fix it and we can do another write up for that. It is free to fix if you have the right tools, if you are in UT maybe we could get together and fix it, it takes about 20 minutes plus a trip down to EVCO house of hoses to get the o-ring replacement. I'm betting it's the HPR though.

Well, you could open up the trunk and try and find it while it's leaking. You could also do the soapy water thing...but if it's leaking really bad I would imagine you would be able to tell just by looking.

There's the high pressure lock-off (HPL) but it wouldn't be that...you should check the high pressure line connections...there's also different components on the HPL that could possibly leak, it would probably be worth your while to buy a service manual to so you can look all of this up.

Posting the manual on-line would be in violation of copy written material. And yes the service manual tells you how to verify whether or not a component has failed.

What you are looking at is the High Pressure Lock-Off (HPL) (all those components together are called the HPL). Harpoon is working in this area and will be able to answer you better than I could.

The HPL locks the CNG off when the car turns off and when something is not working right, in your case something is leaking so it locks it off...don't know how right I am...so take it with a grain of salt.

Harpoon's has gone bad, it's the high pressure sensor (HPS), yours probably has a leak in the o-ring...you should get a new o-ring and see if it works. If that doesn't work try something else. Harpoon has posted the part number for this (and he is going to try out a different part that is cheaper) so you can search the GM forum for the part number...but you probably won't need a new part (hopefully).

Sorry for the late reply, I was out of town on business.

                        Good luck!
