I have a 2001 F150 with 69000 miles. Davis County,UT uses the computer to test emissions if the computer is working without faults you pass. My Evap System and Catalyst are showing not ready, not a fault but not reset--therefore I automatically fail. Any ideas? I disconnected the positive lead to the battery to reset the computer and will run on gas because this seems to have something to do with it. Any ideas on how many miles it should take to reset or why I should be hving this problem?

Re: 2001 Ford F150 Computer not resetting
Go or call Autozone on 500 West there. See if they can reset the computer. They will read codes for free and give you a print out. However, when I took mine there, I don't believe their reader can read the CNG problems. At least it couldn't read mine.
My manual says it takes an OBDII scan tool to reset the codes. It also says the system will reset itself after three drive cycles of not detecting the faults.
Also, it says not to disconnect the battery to try to clear codes as the system will lose the operating parameters it "learns" and will have to relearn them through more drive cycles.
My son tried to reset his codes taking the cable off overnight with no benefit.
Good Luck

Re: 2001 Ford F150 Computer not resetting
I took my 2001 to Autozone to read codes that came up a few days ago. The guy there said he couldn't clear codes. (He probably could but may not have known how)
My son's neighbor works for Checker and told him how to have them clear codes or how to use their OBD II scanner to clear it. He had to show the guy how when he had Checker read his. On their scanner, there is a button on the top left with a symbol over it that looks like a paralleogram (SP?). It's actually a picture of an eraser for pencil. He said later it passed inspection at a quicky emission place. I asked if I could borrow theirs for a second and it cleared my code, also. You hook it up, turn key to accessory, push button, then push it again. You may have to hold it a few seconds.
Good Luck,
Max

Re: 2001 Ford F150 Computer not resetting
Just a follow up:
I went through the drive cycles. As stated before this was not an issue of codes but an issue of system not ready. I drove the car at 55 mph for 20+ miles on gasoline with 1/2 to 3/4 tank of gasoline as perscribed by the ford website. It worked Evap system was ready and catylst was a go passed with flying colors. Thanks Max!

Re: 2001 Ford F150 Computer not resetting
That's great!
I took mine to Davis County and even though I had cleared the code, the system said not ready, also. From reading about it, it needs to go through three drive cycles including about twenty minutes of highway plus other driving. I will drive mine to work in SLC from Kaysville a few times to see if it resets.
