  • Cost of converting

I'm trying to convert a 2004 Ford F-250 Powerstroke. But i can't find prices anywhere. I know that Sno-motion in SLC does but they dont list prices online. Anyone have any clue?

    Re: Cost of converting

    Welcome to CNGchat j03j03!

Conversion kits do exist for the F-250 series, so you are in luck. Most conversions range from $10k to $13k for that vehicle class, somewhat more if you want additional tanks / range. If it is under 3/4 ton you get a $4,000 federal income tax credit to offset the cost, and if it is over 3/4 ton this goes up to $8,000. Also, since you are in Utah you can get a $2,500 tax credit on your state income taxes too. Give Rick or Matt a call at Sno-Motion and they will be happy to schedule you in (as you can imagine with fuel at 63 cents they have a waiting list!)

I see you have a duplicate post over in the Ford forum. To avoid two threads on the same topic I am going to move this over there where it can get a wider audience.

Thanks John! I'll give them a call tomorrow. How big of a tank should i get? I have a 12 gallon in my '96 Ranger and its fine for it, but the powerstroke is much bigger.

        Re: Cost of converting

First, call Sno-Motion and ask about the cost. I talked to Dave there and he was friendly and helpful. I am sure they would tell you without having to go in. There is also another place around SLC that does the conversions.

Check out the types of conversions to diesel. One way involves adding an ignition system including plugs, which may completely convert to CNG. Another method is similar to Propane addition called fumigation, where natural gas is injected into the intake stream, but doesn't involve as much engine modification. Fumigation uses the diesel fuel to ignite the natural gas, but reduces diesel use about 80-90 percent. I have seen kits on the internet for about $1800 dollars plus the cost of a tank. This method I imagine makes a diesel bi-fuel as well.

Just a thought before you decide. Do searches to get information. Also, realize I don't know much about this as I just learned about it and haven't researched it.

However, being a typical guy, just because I don't know alot about something, it doesn't stop me from showing off my ignorance!

        Good Luck
