  • Mpg comparison 2000 ford crown vic Vs 2003 Ford Crown vic

I came across a problem. I have 2 CNG crown Vic's One is 2000 model, the other is 2003. On the 2000 Model, I have racked up over 300,000 miles, and got on average 24MPG on freeway while doing so. Now recently I came across another crown vic. This one I bought with 38,000 miles and this one gets approximately 17MPG on the freeway. Also My 2000 Model Idled at 795 RPM, the 2003 model is getting near 860 RPMs in the Idle mode. Being so impressed with the 2000 model's gas mileage I went and got the 2003 Model. I am now a very disappointed camper, lol. Anyone got any suggestions or maybe ideas on what it might be. btw the 2000 Model crown vic. Still runs like its off the showroom clocking at 330,000 MIles.

Hmm... My 2000 CNG Crown Vic got about 19 on the freeway and about 15-16 in the city. Sold it back in 2003 with 30,000 on it.

You might refer to a service bulletin I posted in the Ford section that refers to a proceedure that may help.

I might have the answer to your question about the difference in mileage, is the 2000 vic a retired police car? I have a 1999 crown vic that is and it used to be a highway cruiser in phoenix, because of this the rear end has a very high gearing ratio. I have heard police use a 240 gearing ratio on their highway patrol vehicles, because of my high gear ratio I get very good mileage on the freeway, coming very close to 30 miles a gallon if you keep it on the freeway and particularly if you keep your foot out of the floorboard.
