  • Poor mpgge with my F150

I have gone a little over 1000 miles on my dedicated 01 F150 with a best of 13.5 mpgge and a worst of 11.8 mpgge, all city. I really believe this little 2wd std cab should do better, 15-16 city and over 20 hwy. I will try to make a few mods. to achieve this.

    1. AFE cold air intake.
    2. Magnaflow 3" cat back exhaust.
    3. Gut all 3 cats.

If it is such a clean burning fuel, why three cats to choke the mpgge out of it. Any input would be appreciated.

1000 miles is not really broken in on a cng. Since the gasoline is not washing down the cylinder walls it will take longer to break in the engine. if you are running synthetic motor oil it will take even longer.

I hate to disappoint you. But I've owned four f150's since the triton motors came out and you won't do better than 12-13 in the city, 15-17 highway. 17 if you are lucky, have a tailwind and drive like a grandma. I get a solid 15 highway with the 5.4 triton. But I drive hard. They are great engines though. Never had a problem with any of them. Who cares about mileage when it costs .63 cents a gallon.

I would not gut your cats. On a gasoline 5.4 it will turn on the check engine light and reduce your mileage.

Been driving a bi-fuel F-150 for almost a year. My MPG is right in line with the number above. 16ish on the highway, and 12-13 around town.

Well I put a cold air intake on and a 3" cat back exhaust on, I'm to lazy to gut the cats. It does seem to help a little but no where near enough to pay for it's self in my life time. It sure sounds good though.

I bought my truck in UT.
