  • Catalitic converter for e series

My smog shop wants 1100 for the part straight from Ford 3 week lead time.

Does anyone know a good shop to go to in So Cal (LA/Orange county border) that could work on a CNG vehicle ( ford E series)

    Thank you

    Bob

would it really matter what kind of catalytic converter is on the vehicle? i thought in that case it was a visual only or is there some sort of number on there that i haven't heard about? if it is only visual you could probably get away with one from an aftermarket company. should be a lot cheaper than 1100 dollars.

Yes it does matter when you're dealing with California SMOG. If a replacement Catalytic converter is needed it must be an approved OBD II replacemen if the vehicle is OBD II compliant (96 and newer). Otherwise we he goes back for a retest, they will fail the vehicle.

Check some of the exhaust system web sites for one that is approved for that year and make of vehiclen there a few.

Villa Ford in Orange was one of the higher volume alt fuel dealers. Bob Wondries is another. Villa Ford got a new cat for my 00 crown vic in 3 days, when another dealer was talking 2 weeks. (back in 2002) This was directly from Ford . # days vs 2 weeks ? never found out why.

i had no idea that California was such a pain in the butt with all of this stuff. glad I live in Oklahoma it makes things so much easier, and cheaper to say the least.

              badaceds650,
I hope your not talking about me.
I am curious because I specialize in the E-series (not by choice, I hate Ford) and have access to some used parts off some dedicated vans.
