  • refueling psi ?

In looking over the maps of ng stations I see most are 3000 psi if your tank is rated at a higher level i.e. 3600 psi does this mean you can not get a full tank.

Yes sir. I have a 3600 psi tank and I really don't ever get it "full." stations in Utah typically keep their pressure at 3200-3300. That's because even a 3000 psi tank can withstand an additional 10% fill on a fast fill. As far as I know, there aren't many 3600 psi stations around.

The majority of the CNG stations in LA/OC/RIV/SB/SD have both 3000 and 3600 pumps. I have only found one station in my extensive travels that only has 3000 PSI and that was an SDG&E north of Hotel Circle.

The difference for a fill up on my Crown Vic is about 1 GGE between 3000 (8.8GGE) and 3600 PSI (9.9GGE), if my math is accurate.

      Hope this helps

As stated most stations in SoCal have both... There are some that are 3000# only (City of Ontario), and a very limited few that are 3600 only (City of San Bernardino I know is 3600 only, so a 3000# car cannot fill up there). Out in your area, it's a mix. The Palm Springs Airport, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Desert Waste Management stations are 3000 only (they will still fill a 3600# car, but only to approx 80%). Cathedral City and Thousand Palms are 3000 or 3600. Of course, a home refueler is whatever you need it to be, and cheaper per gge than all those high-priced CE stations.

The filling nozzle on a 3600 psi vehicle is different than the filling nozzle on a 3000 psi vehicle. A 3600 filling nozzle will work at a 3000 psi fueling station, but a 3000 psi filling nozzle will NOT work at a 3600 fueling station.

In Utah, Questar uses the 3000 psi fueling station nozzle.

I've read this before and I'm a little confused. The Salt Lake Valley stations are supposed to run at 3300psi, but I've read that the Park City station is 3600psi (I've filled there and it appears to be so). From what I can tell the Park City station nozzle is exactly the same as the Valley nozzles. What am I missing?

Also, I've got a '07 GX that is supposed to be rated at 3600psi. If the nozzles are different and not interchangeable how can both nozzles fit my GX?

Although the older systems were 'rated' for 3000psi, as you see many stations in Utah dispense 3300 for both systems. When a gas pressure system is 'rated' for a certain pressure, it is tested at 1.5 times that. So running a 3000 system which was tested at 4500 at 3300 or 3600 is slightly more risky than running it at 3000, but not dangerous in my opinion.

                3000 psi nozzles are BLUE
                3600 psi nozzles are YELLOW

                1. Can be used with any type of vehicle which has an NGV 1 receptacle.
                2. Keying system prevents higher pressure nozzle from connecting onto lower pressure receptacle.
                3. (CMV 08 nozzle) Available in 2 different service pressures.
                4. Color coded sleeve visually identifies service pressure.

Most stations in Utah try and run between the two pressures to satisfy both older 3000 psi and newer 3600 psi tank systems rather than adding additional pumps with 3600 psi nozzles. However I would prefer the latter, but I am not the one paying for additional pumps.

you can fast fill to 125% of the tanks rated pressure but you must compensate for temperature
