I talked with a guy that has a 1999 Ford F250 bi-fuel but the CNG setup has been disconnected because where he lives they don't have public stations. He said that it runs perfectly on gas. It has a lot of miles on it (196K) but I think I can get a pretty good deal on it. My question is whether or not the CNG system will still work if it has been disconnected and gone unused for several years. I know I'll need to get a new tank for it, but will someone be able to hook it up and be good to go? Any help would be great!

Re: HELP!! - Unhooked CNG System
Its not worth anything! Give me the guy's contact information so I can let him know
Seriously, I would imagine a compuvalve that did not see regular use has more probability of being bad, or failing. They are expensive. I would think everything else would be fine!
I'm going to have a factory tank out of a CNG F150 in 2 weeks, prolly trying to get $1300 for it. Lemme know if your interested.

Re: HELP!! - Unhooked CNG System
Just a question for you to ask him that sounds a bit curious to me: why is the system disconnected if it runs on either fuel with a flick of a switch? I would bet that the compuvalve is bad and someone started to take it apart to fix and never finished.

Re: HELP!! - Unhooked CNG System
So I bought the truck. I was told the system wasn't disconnected, just the tank was pulled out of the truck do remove weight. Basically no CNG access in Atlanta for them. I took it to a Ford dealer to make sure it ran well before buying it. Since it didn't have the tank they couldn't check to make sure the CNG system worked. Bummmer, but for what I paid, it's a risk I'm willing to take.
Follow up question for everyone. All the parts are in there still but have sat dormant for 3 years. If I get a tank and hook it up, can I just fill and test it? Do I need to take it somewhere to have the lines cleaned out or anything? I'm so excited to get rolling on CNG (especially since I just drove it Atlanta to SLC getting 15 MPG!!)

Re: HELP!! - Unhooked CNG System
Cool. I'll call Champion Ford and see about flushing the system. In theory, I should be able to hook up a tank and just see if it works? Best case scenario it starts right up and runs for me. Here's to hoping!
On another subject, any suggestions on tanks? I hear there is some company in Brigham City starting up and selling 13 GGE tanks. I hear Lincoln Composites sells new tanks, but that they're pricey. I couldn't find price lists though.

Re: HELP!! - Unhooked CNG System
Thinking more about it, this is what I would do. Disconnect your cng line before it connects to the filter, (that’s just under the bed, and easy to access) and blow it out with compressed air and change the filter. I think the only problem you would be looking at is a few bug nests up in the line. The filter would have blocked anything past that point.
Once your get your tank on and the truck runs, I would put new plugs, coils and o-rings on the cng injectors for a tune-up.
Yeah Lincoln Composites is going to be very expensive, but they have huge tanks. I saw a 24gge tank on a new gmc that snow-motion was converting; he said it was something like 4k just for the tank... I think your best option for finding a tank is on this forum, or try eBay.
Good luck hope it works out.

Even if it seems to work on cng (I'm praying the compuvalve isn't bad . . .) you would suggest changing all plugs, coils and o-rings to tune it up? Is that something that's easy to get to and do or am I better off taking it to a shop? I'm certainly no mechanic, but I don't mind getting in there and trying to take care of things if it's relatively straight forward.
Thank you so much for your help. This forum is so fantastic for info!
