  • Is now a good time to sell my 2000 Ford Contour?

I live in the SF bay area and bought my 2000 Contour a little over two years ago. I used to commute 60 miles each day, but for the past year and a half, I have worked from home, so don't really need the bi-fuel features. I've been thinking about the Civic GX (not paying the $4 bridge tolls add up quickly), but I've also got my eye on the Think City or a Smart.

With the high demand for CNG vehicles, I'm thinking that now might be a good time to sell the car in Utah.

Where would I find the going rate for a 2000 Ford Contour with 73,000 miles on it? Is eBay the best way to sell the car?

Ebay gets you your best price.

I would say now is a good time.

It seems that now is a good time to sell any CNG vehicle.

I was just at Nationwideauction.com auction in Seaside, CA, and 1997 Contour with 139k miles sold for $3300 +10%. I am new to CNG business, so maybe it's a good price, but when I started it would not switch to CNG, and if you turn the lights on it would die.

There was another 1997 Contour with 83k miles, that one had half of its engine in the trunk, disassembled. Sold for $1200 + 10%. There was only one buyer bidding, and I believe they couldn't go lower than that.

These prices are very high compared to other stock. For example a 10 year old Ford E-450 cutaway 15 passenger bus sold for $600. But there was only a few bidders, so correct me if I am wrong.

As for me, although I do want to switch to CNG, for now I'll pass, the market is not there just yet. Maybe I'll ride a scooter instead.

It's always a good time to get out of a Contour But on a more serious note. The market is hot right now so you'll get your best price for it now, but gas will go over $4 for sure and then it will worth more but you will have to play a balancing act because the Contour is not a high demand car, And if people were to do research on the car you may never sell it. But there will always 1 person that doesn't do their homework, so if you get an offer take and run.

Like Murphy said, anytime is a good time to get out of a Contour. Those are not real good cars. The repairs can be very expensive if you have a compuvalve or a regulator go out on them which is very common. The cost to get a compuvalve replaced will easily be over $2000. And a regulator will be over $1300. We are a repair shop and we very much like having lots of Contours around so please sell it into the Utah market.
