Thread: Illinois cng station

    Default Illinois cng station

My company has a local delivery fleet(10-15 trucks) along with many onsite forklifts and diesel stationary power units. We are looking into cng as an alternate fuel source. I know we will have to put in our own fueling station. I'm wondering about the ease/difficulty and benefits or pitfalls of making this station open to the public with auto payment by credit card. This would probably be near Plainfield IL in the SW suburbs. Any input would be appreciated.

I live in Homer Glen, IL, just a little north east of Joliet and I would certainly welcome a public CNG station in the Plainfield area. It would be most beneficial if it was close to the new I-355 extension, allowing easy access not only from the Southwest suburbs, but also the Western suburbs.

Go for it !!! The more public cng refueling stations the better!!!

Great contact person is owner of Kyler Brothers HVAC (Indianapolis, IN) who installed his own public cng refueling station in 2007 (installed by Tulsa Gas Tech). They are a heating and air conditioning company with fleet of about 25 to 30 trucks and vans that majority now are either dedicated cng or bi-fuel. Phone number is 317-829-1478.

When I went through town in Dec 2007, price was $1.51 and got great full fill on Honda Civic GX with pump at over 4,000 psi. Now I see on www.cngprices.com that price has gone up to $1.70 but still a bargain.

I talked to owner about process and he said when new building was built, they rolled in costs of building public cng pump into loan as around $300,000 but then they got Federal & State grants, along with Indiana tax credits which ultimately dropped net cost to around $50K to $60K . . . not much considering they are saving hundreds of dollars a month PER VEHICLE that is running on cng versus petrol!!!

    Hey there Hoytek,

I'm from West Bend. Where do you fill up there? Just curious. Also hope you are successful putting in a public station in ILL with your company. They really need more fueling options down there. Keep us posted on that.

I have some fast fill equipment available that would work for a private fleet.
Natural Drive has some New Impala's and Chev Trucks that will be available soon if you are looking for any new vehicles.

Fuel Maker has a mini-public access system that does 130 gge/day and is modular so it can be expanded without tearing out an inadequate system. The ceramic compression modules eliminate fuel system contamination. Tom Sewel with Tulsa Gas Tech is a FM dealer.

just my thought I would go with anything but fuel maker everyone I know that has fooled with them was not happy and just think 3600 lb load and no oil it cant live and 130 gge a day aint much with public I take on 52 gge in my pick up so 2 and 1/2 of me and you will not have any left for your trucks good luck

The FM Mini Public Fast Fill Station actually has 4200 psi compressors to help keep the pressure up at the storage.
With a dual set up of the FMQ8-36's you would be pumping 192 gallons per day plus whatever you already had in storage to 3600 psi.
