Hey gang, CNGchat needs your help!

For over a decade we have enjoyed providing this little corner of the Internet for folks to discuss all things natural gas vehicles. It is the largest forum of its kind: with some 70,000 posts on over 11,000 topics. But with continued low gasoline & diesel prices and strong automaker support for electric vehicles, consumer interest in CNG has dropped considerably, and with it has visitor traffic here. As a result, Google ad revenues no longer cover hosting fees.

If you find CNGchat to be a useful resource then please consider making a modest donation to support keeping this remarkable pool of knowledge available to the alternative fuels community. Thanks!

  • Possible Extension of WHITE Carpool Sticker in CA to 2025!!

Lets all write in and support AB 1964 by Richard Bloom, D-Santa Monica,
Q I'm toying with the idea of buying a plug-in hybrid. Getting carpool stickers would be a significant incentive to do so. Will I be able to get a green sticker?
    Dennis La
A Maybe. The current program has reached its 85,000 limit, but legislation is once again working its way through Sacramento to increase that number and extend the expiration date beyond Jan. 1, 2019.
Assembly Bill 1964 by Richard Bloom, D-Santa Monica, would remove the 2019 sunset date and eliminate the 85,000 cap on green stickers. Green stickers issued prior to Jan. 1, 2018, would expire on Jan. 1, 2019. Stickers issued between Jan. 1, 2018, and Dec. 31, 2018, would be valid until Jan. 1, 2022.
White carpool stickers for electric vehicles and those running on compressed natural gas would remain uncapped.
Gov. Jerry Brown proposes removing the cap on the number of green stickers but retaining the 2019 expiration date and extending the white sticker program until 2025. The increased availability of EVs with a longer driving range has prompted demand for white stickers to more than double, from roughly 41,000 at the end of 2013 to 99,697 on April 1.

Interesting. No mention of carpool lanes clogging to the point of not being much faster than other lanes.

Bur given the importance of Tesla in CA, I would not be surprised by a white sticker extention. Green stickers on dirtier plug-in hybrids might be something different....

Don't forget the god dam carpool cheaters. They clog it up to, especially in the Bay Area. CHP never around at 5pm to watch them either. It's like there scared to drive in traffic. They need to double the fine so people will start to feel it. 400 is not enough for people to care.

They will be extended when expiration comes close. No way the Bay Area Greens are going to have Tesla's kicked out of the HOV lanes. I would bet more electrics have white stickers at this time, and CNG white sticker vehicles are dropping every day as they get retired ( wrecked, sold out of state, junked, etc)
