  • CNG E-Hybrid Tractor Trucks by TransPower

Ran across this Fleet & Fuels article on E-Hybrid cng tractor trucks that will use 3.7 ltr Ford v6 just for purpose of burning cng to charge batteries on electric truck !!! Main source of power is 100 to 150 Kw of electric power from lithium ion phosphate battery.

I just dont understand a plain old motor running on cng has cut my cost from close to a dollar a mile to around to well less than a .20 cents per mile. complicating things with computers and elt drive motors gensets and what not will not make energy out of thin air you may save a little on the energy gained back on regeneration but you have to drag all the battery's around. we are told to get the 100 or 200 lbs out of the trunk to save money and mpg but it is a good idea to hang thousands of pounds of battery's and other crap on the truck. sounds like a government grant deal lots of taxpayers money in very little out if a 3.7 ltr motor had the power to move 80000 lbs all the trucking company's would not be wasting their money on 14 and 15 ltr motors as it is much cheaper to buy a car motor than a big diesel truck motor.

      You're spot on Cowboy . . . as usual ! :-)

These new E-hybrids serve the short-haul city routes where likely there may be ZE requirement for a major city (ie Zero Emission . . . . thus "all" electric).

With the "big" 3.7 ltr v6 just for recharging the batteries, it sure better power the Reefer refrigeration and other alternate power needs that truck or trailer may need (ie sleeper cab with frig, TV, WiFi, etc).
